Dogodek so organizirali ZIT, IKT hm, Častnik Finance ob podpori DS4SSCC projekta (DS4SSCC Data Spaces for Smart and Sustainable Cities & Communities – Podatkovni prostori za pametna trajnostna mesta in skupnosti).

Več o DS4SSCC projektu o pametnih mestih in skupnostih.

We are living in the digital era where AI-based technologies have opened new research opportunities and provided impactful solutions for healthcare professionals. On the other hand, the emergence of big data spaces in this domain has raised several challenges around ownership and usage of personal data. Pharma and healthcare experts, clinicians, scientists, legal counsels, and society in general are involved in striving the digital progress, while facing a bivalent problem: data access and its impact on privacy, security, confidentiality, and intellectual property rights. In most European countries novel AI-applications are transforming the healthcare and pharma sectors, whereas data availability remains a limitation for research and policy making purposes. To facilitate innovation within European data spaces, secondary use of data has a great potential to improve health outcomes while mitigating the issue in sharing data. Thus, a good harmonization among protection of secondary data and facilitation of their reuse for research purposes is needed to leverage and enhance innovation.

View EBDVF 2021 session

It is not intended as an academic contribution, but it rather addresses city administrations, IT industry actors, EU policy makers and Gaia-X members in general.

Gaia-X has recently emerged as a key player in the European data policy and infrastructure domain. With this paper, we aim to reflect on what the application of Gaia-X can be in the European Smart Cities domain. Throughout the text, we will use the terms ‘Urban technology’, ‘Smart City or ‘Smart Cities and Communities’ and ‘Local technology’. Through these terms, we refer to the application of technologies in cities, but also in smaller geographical areas, like villages and larger ones like provinces and regions. This refers to an evolution in Europe to go beyond smart cities by referring to ‘Local’ systems or ‘Smart cities and communities’, which are understood by the EU as applications beyond cities.

The paper combines multiple perspectives and aims to establish a common understanding of both the Gaia-X and key local technology concepts and how they can be interrelated. It is not intended as an academic contribution, but it rather addresses city administrations, IT industry actors, EU policy makers and Gaia-X members in general. At the time of writing, the Gaia-X specifications are still in flux, which means that describing detailed case applications in a Local context is somewhat premature. However, this paper makes a first attempt at framing the application domain of Gaia-X in the Local European Smart Cities and Communities context. In subsequent versions of this document, we will set out to specify the cases in more detail.

From optimized logistics to fraud detection, from social distancing to facial recognition, intelligent machine systems are transforming both the management and experience of urban services.

Just as these systems become more capable, our world becomes more efficient and open source has a lot to answer to that. Open source innovation is at the forefront of ensuring that software-based processes, operational models, decision-making, and end-user experiences happen in a sustainable and cost-effective manner.

Dozens of FIWARE members and partners co-created the White Paper, including the ICT Horizontal Network. The document addresses how cities can mindfully advance their digital transformation via open source innovation, from a practical perspective.

Slovenia is highlighted as an example of good practice and as a reference country for open source and open standards. Slovenia is "the first country in Europe to have requested its cities to use the CEF Context Broker and apply MIMs when implementing strategies for smart cities and regions, Slovenia is laser-focused on value-added applications".

Read the full document HERE.

"According to the index of the digital economy and society, Slovenia ranks slightly below the EU average, but its gap is gradually increasing, so it is necessary to resolutely join the development," she emphasized. "Most of the world's economy will be digitized in the coming years, and we must not miss this process. Digitalisation is an important factor in raising productivity and economic growth, and the re-use of data enables completely new business models, where Slovenia's small size is an advantage and companies can reposition themselves in global value chains."

More
